In God’s Time

seeds of Love Quilters Devotional Series - The Hour Glass

The hourglass block represents an hourglass, keeping time for us. One grain of sand at a time.

Hourglass blocks are made with four-patch units and Half Square Triangle units

Although an hourglass may not have perfect timing, God always does. Always.

It’s what some people might call coincidence. Serendipity. A fluke.

For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. Habakkuk 2:3 ESV

But I don’t believe in coincidence. My faith tells me it’s God at work.

Let me tell you what happened while working on this project.

I was discouraged.   (That was the enemy and an enemy at work)

My quilting projects were hitting a standstill. I was indecisive about colors and overwhelmed by the tasks at hand. My piano compositions sounded stale, and my writing had gone into dribble about nothing.

My creative life needed encouragement, in particular in my writing.

A seed of discouragement was taking root!

Even though writing has been a dream of mine since I was a child, that seed of discouragement had me thinking I was chasing what didn’t belong to me.

I usually write in my journal at a time like this, but my brain was too tired and weary for a journaling exercise.

So instead, I picked up a book by Max Lucado and began reading where I had left off a few nights ago.

These are the words that caught my attention.

“You can do this. Do not shrink back. After all, you are an ambassador of Christ. … You are a child of God. Would a child not speak up for his father?”

Max Lucado, How Happiness Happens, page 128.

(Have I mentioned God’s timing is perfect?)

That’s what I was ready to do. Shrink back.

I didn’t believe I had what it took.

When I read those words, all the discouragement faded and was replaced with a good dose of encouragement.

But God knew. He knew I’d need encouragement on this particular day. He placed a book in my hand at just the right time.

Coincidence. You can call it that. But for me? I trust that God knows what we need when we need it.

Until next time, enjoy your day and the journey
