Reminiscing? Think on the Good.

Reminiscing think on the good

I love sitting down and reminiscing with my brothers about road trips we took. We can giggle and laugh over the absurdity of passing notes between two cars on the interstate.

Man, that was crazy stupid. But so fun to go down memory lane, reminisce about the dumb things we did as kids.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Phiippians 4:8 ESV

Don’t let reminiscing turn into a grudge fest!

It’s when we go down memory lane and start digging up the axes to grind, the woes, the hurts. That’s when reminiscing and memory lane can cause a problem.

There are always going to be those hurts and disappointments in life. Even when we look back on a picture-perfect event, there were probably a few headaches along the way. I know there were a few headaches when we were planning our 25th wedding anniversary and the renewal of our vows!

If you start focusing on those things, whatever they may be, it will overshadow the good memories.

The Quilt

A little about the quilt pictured.

It is a signature quilt from when my husband and I renewed our vows on our 25th wedding anniversary. Our guest book was quilt blocks taped to heavy-weight paper for our guests to sign.

After the party, the guest book was tucked away. And stayed tucked away for 15 years.

I told everyone it might be finished by the time we are married 50 years. So, I’m technically 10 years ahead of schedule.

I look at this quilt and all the signatures of the people who celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with us.

Some people decided not to attend. That was their choice. Sure, I was disappointed, but what is the point of focusing on that?

It’s much better to focus on what was excellent and lovely about the day.

The laughter, the joy, the dance. It was a day of happy memories to cherish always.

Until next time, enjoy your day and the journey
