Are You Working Against Yourself?

are you working agains yourself feature image

You start working against yourself if your thinking pattern starts with I hate this or that…

Let me show you what I’m talking about.

When I opened my shop in 2012, it was merely a diversion of sorts, something to do for fun.

It wasn’t open for very long when I started dreaming of actually making money and creating an income from it.

That’s when things kinda went sideways.

Working Against Yourself, Change your thinking. Think on the good things Philippians 4:8

Working for Yourself Is Plain Hard Work.

Never mind all the social media and online jibber-jabber that you need to learn. The stuff is all handmade. It’s one thing to make a quilt at your leisure, but when you need to fill your shop? That takes on a whole new life.

That’s when I started working against myself.

I pointed out every little thing that I hated about what I was doing.

I stayed so focused on the things I hated that I completely lost the joy of it all. And the more I thought about those things, the more I convinced myself I hated those things.

That kind of thinking hindered any possibility of success and certainly took away all the fun!

At the end of it all, I gave it up and closed my shop.

Fast Forward.

The Quilted Bungalow has been open for about a year.

What’s Different?

First I focused on the things I enjoyed doing. The things that are good. In the process, I discovered something magical. I didn’t hate all those things like I thought I did! Cool huh?

No matter what you do in life there are going to be those things that you hate about the job or task. Social Media still isn’t my favorite, but it is part of the dance. If you can find one good thing about that tedious task or job you keep tellin’ yourself you don’t like, you might discover something magical too.

This morning while journaling, I realized I couldn’t wait to get into my quilting studio to create, to make things that will bring someone joy.  A far cry from how I was operating a few years back!

And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

Using your talents to create joy for others?

Change your thinking, change your life.

It’s magic.  And You won’t be working against yourself.

Until next time, enjoy your day and the journey
